Coming Soon: 'These Tales Are True' by Mariam Zohra D.

'These Tales are True' is a narrative of a refugee interfaced with opposing philosophies of life in a new place and an ever-changing time; a narrative that comes full circle. The process of coming to that place of reaffirmation - remembering what tales you believed in as a child; putting to account those stories, myths, legends, intuitions so to return to that place again, anew again.

Expressed using poetry, lyrics, drawings and the arrangement of these elements into a composition, this little chapbook creates a powerful reading experience.

Mariam is a Vancouver artist. She arrived as a refugee from Lahore, Pakistan in 1986. She has lived in Montreal and Toronto. Through a life-long relationship to poetry/prose, audio/visual arts, herbalism, philosophy, song and dance she finds her voice, passion and inspiration. Her earlier poetry collection is titled 'Not to Understand' (Diva Publications, Toronto 1990).

Now Available: 'Blisters Of Chimurenga' a novel by Marshall Shumba

Blisters Of Chimurenga features a cast of unforgettable characters thrust into the power game of death and deprivation in present day Zimbabwe. In this debut novel, Marshall Shumba, a Zimbabwean author/performer/educator, has brought us a fast-paced popular-fiction-style story to illustrate and document a portion of the peoples' history of enduring the violence of colonization in Zimbabwe.

'Vivid in portraying the impact of the current Zimbabwean crisis on ordinary citizens, and lucid in projecting the realities and struggles of peoples' daily lives, Marshall Shumba sees his characters, of all colors, as part of the land they inhabit. The people suffer, the land suffers with them.'

In that, Marshall Shumba has told the people's version of the story of colonization every where.
